I just picked up a Porter-Cable and don't have a clue on how to use it nor do I have any sense on what settings go to which pad.  I found the pad guide (http://detailaddict.com/forums/index.php?topic=140.0), but can someone give me some details on proper technique.

Some questions I already have:
1) According to the pad guide, some pads are suited for use with waxes and polishes, but do you use the same pad to apply and remove the product?
2) What settings go to what pads/process?
3) Is there an order of detailing that I should follow (i.e. wash with Dawn, clay, polish, wax)?

If an great guide was provided, perhaps this thread could be a sticky.

welcome!

No never use pad to remove products

2) What settings go to what pads/process?

Anything white and below I go with 4 or 3  anything above you can go 5 or 6 if needed...

3) Is there an order of detailing that I should follow (i.e. wash with Dawn, clay, polish, wax)?

wash, clay, polish, sealant, and wax would be your basic sequence...

NOTE dawn can be used to strip, not necessary to use on every wash. In fact, don't. Smiley

Good luck!

What do you recommend to remove the product that you've just applied?

Also, how much of a surface should be done before removing the product.  For example, would I begin applying product to a quarter of the hood, or should i just go and apply to the entire hood?

that depends on how fast you work.  I say start with 12x12 if you are fast, then half of the hood.

use some super plush MF to buff off the product.  Speed Element or Auto HQ sells them. Smiley
